Middlesbrough Swimming Academy

What is the academy?

Academy is the starting point for most swimmers joining MASC from swimming lessons and swim schools across the North East. Our academy follows the Swim England Swimming Club Awards 1-4, across all 8 lanes, fondly named Penguins, Turtles, Penguins and Dolphins. It is the step between learning to swim and learning to train. An introduction to ‘splash galas’ and how to compete. Not only will swimmers learn more drills and technique work, parents will also be welcomed into the world of competitive swimming.

What does the academy do?

The Swimming Club Awards are set out below. With 6 award levels, they focus on the development of a variety of skills and reaching distances, which will bring your swimmer into the world of racing and learning to train.

How old do I need to be?

We generally welcome stage 7 and age 7 swimmers, but exceptions are always made.

When are academy sessions on?

Our academy sessions takes place on a Sunday 1-2pm. Once swimmers have progressed into the higher lanes, there are also opportunities to train twice a week.

How much is it?

The academy is £25 per month if undertaking one session per week (Sundays). Once the coach has identified the swimmer is ready for more training, the swimmer will be invited along to a second session per week, and the monthly cost for two sessions per week is £35 per month.

Who is who?

Firstly we have Paul Nixon, who is Head of Academy, and runs all the day to day emailing and organising, as well as coaching and teaching during the academy.

We then have several Coaches, Teachers, Aquatic Helpers and volunteers who are regularly involved as a support team.

If you are interested in bringing your swimmer along for a trial, please book a trial today, and Paul will be in touch.
