Total training hours available: 19.5 (inclusive of land training) 

Being selected to be part of our Elite squad should be considered an honour.  Our goal is to see members of the Elite squad achieve medal success at a regional and national level within their chosen events.  

We also aim to support swimmers to:  

  • Regularly qualify for (and final at) NER Short and Long Course Championships.
  • Produce frequent peak performances at target Level 1 meets
  • Prepare youth/senior athletes for University / N&D Performance Programs
  • Develop towards specialism (sprint, middle-distance or distance)

Members of the Elite Squad range in age from 15 to 18 years (age as at December 31st), and enjoy a varied training programme that includes:

  • Medley based training, developing towards specialism (sprint, mid-distance or distance)
  • Supplementary training on kick, dolphin kick, maximal speed, stroke efficiency and stroke skills (starts, turns and finishes)
  • Developing skills and tactics towards world class parameters

Our focus is on supporting swimmers to achieve excellence and nurture ambition. To do this we expect our Elite swimmers to meet high standards, which include: 

  • Attending the prescribed number of weekly sessions
  • Train at the prescribed density and intensity for themesleves and the group
  • Adhere to the competition / event program
  • Always demonstrate a ‘performance / growth’ mindset
  • Act as a mentor for Age Group & Junior members of the club

Ages:

Male 15 years+ (considered 14 years)

Female 14 years+ (considered 13 years)

Accepted criteria for entry into squad

To be ranked in the Top 24 in the age groups specified at the British Summer Championships

Proven ability and commitment to following a demanding training program (swimmers, with parental support)

A positive mind set, with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances

100% commitment to team events

Signed and returned copies of Swimmer Code of Conduct & Parents Code of Conduct

A Team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic

Consistently attending 80-100%, lower attendance must be agreed with the Head Coach.

Considered criteria for entry into squad

Qualifying time for National Championships, British Championships

Swimmers’ national ranking can be taken into consideration. Considered swimmer should have 5 NER QT

Land Training/Weights Criteria

To commit to a minimum of 2 land training sessions a week..

To wear club kit during pre pool (shorts and trainers), land training and gym sessions (club top and shorts).

Arrive 10 minutes before each session for pre-pool and stay 10 minutes after each session for stretching.

Criteria for Squad Exit

Failure to comply with the Clubs Code of Conduct

Unable to attain the relevant performance standard.

Consistently late to sessions (pool and land) without agreement

Consistently unable to maintain the Senior Performance training commitment, as agreed with Head Coach.

Consistently unable to maintain the Senior Performance competition commitment, as per fixtures list.

Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the club programme.

Pathways

Not meeting criteria – Move to Competitive A squad, Active, or Masters (if over 18)
